Sandnes, Norway & Sugar Land, Texas — June 19, 2025

3LC, a leader in data-centric computer vision workflows, is proud to announce a strategic partnership with Roboxi, the Norwegian pioneer in autonomous runway inspection and maintenance robotics. This collaboration introduces a cutting-edge AI-powered solution designed to elevate runway safety, automate inspection workflows, and accelerate data-driven decision-making across airports.

The partnership follows a highly successful proof-of-concept (POC) project in which 3LC played a critical role in improving Roboxi’s autonomous runway inspection model focused on runway light detection. The results highlight how data-centric workflows—powered by 3LC’s advanced analyzing, debugging, and labeling tools—can optimize real-world inspection systems deployed in critical infrastructure.

Highlights of the POC

  • Reproducing Benchmark Performance: The 3LC team trained Roboxi’s light detection model to establish baseline benchmarks.
  • Smart Data Discovery: Using the 3LC platform, the team rapidly identified and flagged issues such as missing labels, misclassified bounding boxes, and inconsistent annotations—unlocking hidden performance blockers.
  • Dataset Optimization at Scale: The 3LC platform enabled efficient identification and correction of over 2,000 missing bounding boxes, resolving class mix-up issues caused by inconsistent labeling. By leveraging the active learning approach, we were able to make these improvements swiftly.
  • Optimized Model Performance: Within less than one week, the model’s performance was significantly improved, demonstrating the power of an integrated, iterative approach to data and model refinement.

These results are just the beginning. By integrating 3LC into their pipeline, Roboxi has the tools to continuously refine their data and models, paving the way for further advancements in autonomous runway inspection and maintenance robotics efficiency and performance.

🛡️ Why It Matters

  • Improved Safety & Reliability: Automating detection of dangerous debris, bird activity, and lighting anomalies helps avoid runway emergencies, aircraft damage, and operational delays.
  • Efficiency at Scale: High-throughput labeling and validation tools enable more frequent model retraining, ensuring Roboxi adapts effectively to varied weather and lighting across runway environments.
  • Digital Intelligence: Combined insights from Roboxi’s cloud-based sensor logs and 3LC’s rich annotations create a centralized intelligence hub—reducing runway downtime and manual inspection costs.
