Houston, March 17, 2025 3LC is proud to announce that Saga Robotics is working with 3LC’s leading-edge machine learning platform to enhance the performance of its robotic solutions. By incorporating 3LC’s data quality and curation tool, Saga Robotics aims to refine its fruit assessment models and help farmers boost both efficiency and sustainability.
Already a leader in the field, Saga Robotics has made remarkable advancements in deploying robotic solutions to tackle some of farming’s most persistent challenges. In 2024, Saga’s flagship Thorvald robots operated across nine major farms in the UK – spanning Kent, the South of England, and Scotland – treating up to 10% of all tabletop strawberries grown in the country. Thorvald’s use of UV-C light to combat powdery mildew has proven not only effective but also transformative for growers seeking sustainable alternatives to chemical pesticides.
The decision builds on a successful proof-of-concept, during which 3LC helped Saga Robotics improve the company’s strawberry growth computer vision model. Key results achieved include:
- Enhancing Data Insights: By leveraging unique filtering capabilities in 3LC’s tool and adding per-bounding-box embeddings, Saga Robotics gained significant clarity on data quality and identified areas needing attention.
- Improving Dataset Accuracy: 3LC’s platform addressed labeling challenges, including transitional boundaries and inconsistent annotations, and identified more than 2,000 new bounding boxes to bolster the model’s accuracy.
- Rapid Model Refinement: Utilizing the 3LC Dashboard, the team could iterate swiftly on data – leading to a marked improvement in the strawberry detection model within just a week.
Looking ahead, Saga Robotics will continue to integrate 3LC’s platform into its workflows. Through streamlined data processing and more frequent model updates, Saga Robotics seeks to push the boundaries of agricultural robotics, bolstering its commitment to innovation in farming.
“Working with 3LC has given us advanced tools to help iterate our data models quickly.” said Damian Flynn, Chief Product Officer at Saga Robotics. “We look forward to further improving the accuracy and reliability of our crop data solutions.”
“Saga Robotics’ drive for continuous innovation aligns perfectly with our vision at 3LC,” says Paul Endresen, CEO/CTO at 3LC. “Our platform allows clients like Saga Robotics to refine their models swiftly and effectively – and we’re excited to see how this ongoing collaboration advances precision agriculture.”
